The Law Society of the Northwest Territories

Regulation

The Law Society of the Northwest Territories is a self-governing Society which derives its authority from the Legal Profession Act of the Northwest Territories. The Law Society is responsible for governing the legal profession in the public interest according to Northwest Territories law and the Law Society’s rules, regulations, guidelines and Code of Professional Conduct.

Member Notices
As the regulating body of the Northwest Territories' legal professionals, the Law Society is authorized under the Legal Profession Act to post notices regarding disciplinary actions, including suspensions, disbarment, resignations and reinstatements.

Hearing Notices
Unless otherwise noted, hearings and other discipline proceedings of all members are open to the public.

Practicing in the NWT
Lawyers practicing in the North without authorization from the Law Society of the Northwest Territories will be investigated and have sanctions brought to them through the courts.
