Beyond a Reasonable Trout

The Gumboot Rally, a fundraiser for the Yellowknife Association for Community Living (the Abe Miller Centre), returns to Yellowknife on May 22.

In true form and tradition, local Lawyers have teamed up to take the challenge and raise pledges under the name "Beyond a Reasonable Trout". The team will face others in various sports, such as Bowling for Gumboots and Gumboot Hockey.

Karen Lajoie, past president of the Law Society, is asking for your help. Please send your cash donations to her before May 21 (sorry, no cheques). Donations over $10.00 will receive a tax receipt (if a mailing address is provided). For donation information, contact members the team:

Karen Lajoie (Karen_Lajoie@gov.nt.ca)
Janice Walsh (Janice.Walsh@ppsc-sppc.gc.ca)
Caroline Wawzonek (wawzonek@theedge.ca)

Last year, Beyond a Reasonable Trout raised just under $900. This year, they're aiming for a four (or five!) digit figure. Your help will be most appreciated by them and the Y.A.C.L. Thank you.

The successful use of a prior inconsistent statement can be a key aspect to your ultimate success at trial. Understanding the Crown’s New Disclosure Obligation: The Impact of R. v. McNeil

Tuesday, May 25, 2010 - 12:00pm
CBA Online
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: May 21

http://cba.org/pd/details.aspx?id=NA_ONMAY110

The CBA-NT will be hosting a portal for this event. Watch these bulletins for more information.

Post-McNeil, disclosure of police disciplinary records may be required as first party disclosure which is owed from the police to the Crown or may be the subject of disclosure as third party records. The Supreme Court of Canada decision in McNeil has led to questions regarding how such disclosure can be facilitated, given the many federal and municipal agencies with their own disciplinary procedures and means of record-keeping.

This online program will examine the challenges which the Crown and police face in light of this decision and will discuss issues such as the threshold to be met for disclosure.
