For all those covered through the Law Society, invoices for your 2009/10 Liability Insurance levy have been mailed. Fees for your first installment are due by June 18, 2009. If you have any questions regarding your Liability coverage and renewal fees, please do not hesitate to contact the office.

The Labour and Employment Section has invited John M. Moreau, Q.C., to give a seminar on arbitration and appearing before arbitrators. Join us on Wednesday, April 29, when Mr. Moreau will present pointers on:

Mr. Moreau became a member of the Law Society of Alberta in 1975. Between 1977 and 1998 he was a partner in the Calgary-based Moreau, Ogle & Hursh. He then opened his own practice, which is now restricted to arbitration and mediation. He has given presentations on arbitration and mediation for over 20 years.
This CLE will prove to be a must-attend event for any member dealing with arbitrations. All members are encouraged to attend. If you haven't already, please RSVP by return.
The Workers' Safety & Compensation Commission has put out a Request for Proposals for Legal Services. Sealed proposals will be accepted until 2:00pm on May 13, 2009.

The Labour & Employment Section will be meeting Tuesday, May 5, at 12:00pm in the LSNT Boardroom. Committee members and all those interested are encouraged to attend. Please RSVP by return.
The representatives of the Bar for the Criminal Bench and Bar Committee are Kelly Payne, Caroline Wawzonek, Thomas Boyd and Shannon Smallwood.
There is a meeting scheduled for May 11, 2009. On the agenda is a proposal from the Bench to change Supreme Court Criminal Chambers on Mondays from Courtroom #1 at 2pm to Courtroom #5 at 10am. Currently in conflict for counsel is the Youth Justice Court, scheduled on Mondays at 9:30am in Courtroom #2.
Members are asked to address any concerns they have regarding this to one of the Committee members.
Similarly, if you have any issues you would like raised at this meeting, please advise a member of the committee.

The term of the current appointees to the NWT Law Foundation expires on June 30, 2009. Members interested in serving on the Board of the Foundation are asked to provide their expressions of interest no later than May 30, 2009.
